Bounty overnight oats

This is the breakfast of dreams for bounty lovers, combining the creamy texture of overnight oats with the rich, indulgent flavour of chocolate and coconut.

Whenever I think of Bounty Milk Chocolate, I think of my dad who eats all the miniatures in a tub of Celebrations. This comforting recipe combines two of his favourite things: chocolate and coconut in three different forms.

The coconut milk drink makes the porridge vegan friendly, while the dairy-free cacao powder and cacao nibs adds a touch of richness and decadence to the oats.

Simply mix all the ingredients together the night before and you’ll have a healthy breakfast ready and waiting for you in the fridge when you wake up.

How To Make Bounty Overnight Oats

Tips & Notes to Know

  • No cooking is required: As long as you know how to weigh out ingredients, you can make overnight oats in about 2 minutes.
  • Make ahead: You can prepare a big batch of overnight oats in advance and they’ll last for 3-4 days in the fridge. Just divide the mixture between individual jars or containers, so you (and the kids) can grab a portion before you dash out of the door in the morning.
  • Use old-fashioned rolled oats: Avoid instant oats (too mushy) or steel-cut (too chewy). Rolled oats give the best texture after soaking.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Do Overnight Oats Taste Like?

The beauty of overnight oats is that they absorb whatever ingredients you put in them. You can make them as healthy (or unhealthy) as you like, but the flavour tends to be richer than a bowl of porridge. They are usually eaten cold, though you can heat them in the microwave if you prefer your oats warm.

What Are Chia Seeds?

Chia seeds are the tiny black seeds from the Salvia hispanica plant, which are native to central Mexico. They can be used as an egg replacement in baking, plus they make a great sugar-free jam.

Just as important to know is that a handful of chia seeds (25g) contribute almost 9g of fibre and about 25% of your recommended calcium intake. They’re also useful for balancing blood sugar levels and lowering blood pressure.

What Is Cacao Powder?

Cacao allows you to get all the benefits of chocolate, but without the refined sugar or saturated fat. It’s the purest form of chocolate and is similar to cocoa powder, but more nutritious because it’s less processed.

A small serving is rich in fibre and an excellent source of various minerals, including magnesium, potassium, and selenium.

What Are Cacao Nibs?

Cacao nibs are unsweetened, tiny pieces of crushed cacao seeds. They are crunchy, bitter and rich, so a little goes a long way. Cacao is also thought to be the food with the highest source of magnesium.

Can I Use Honey In Place Of Maple Syrup?

Yes. Honey is usually a touch sweeter than maple syrup, so you may want to use slightly less than the amount of maple syrup called for in the recipe. However, they are basically like for like with the only major difference being the price.
